Summary: The efficient operation of production and transportation of oil and gas systems includes multiphase flow being a problem of fundamental importance. The measurement of wet gas is taking major highlight in this segment WHERE differential pressure flow meters are widely used being the inverted cone considered superior compared to elements of the same technology. In the quest for improved measurement processes in adverse operating conditions (wet gas) this study aims to evaluate the potential of the inverted cone through numerical simulations.
Three different geometries were evaluated according to their beta values 0.55, 0.64 and 0.75. The simulations were conducted at pressures of 15, 40 and 60 bar, with superficial velocities of 5 m / s gas, 7.5 m / s, 10 m / s, 12.5m / s, 15 m / s, 20 m / s, 30m / s, 40m / s and 48 m / s.
The understanding and prediction of flow phenomena studied were made by analysis of Computational Fluid Dynamics techniques, being able to validate the study with experimental data, analyze the influence factors (Lockhart-Martinelli parameter, ratio of density, surface speed and among other) and propose a discharge coefficient for two-phase condition.
