Summary: Shakedown can be defined as the process by which a structure subjected to a cyclic loading, which deforms plastically during the first load application, reaches a steady state after a determined number of cycles in which the response of the material is perfectly elastic. A structure designed based on a shakedown analysis is safer than one based on its plastic boundary. Thus, a numerical study was carried out to evaluate the influence of parameters such as yield stress, coefficient of friction, degree of hardening and hardening model in shakedown phenomenon. For this, commercial software ABAQUS was used, WHERE a finite element model was made to simulate a cyclic loading of a rigid sphere on a deformable plane. The results indicate that the more resistant the material requested (the higher the flow voltage) the faster the stabilization in shakedown occurs. The friction is detrimental to the shakedown event, increasing the amount of charging cycles required for its stabilization. Already the hardening had a beneficial influence, facilitating the happening of the phenomenon. The isotropic and linear kinematic encruameno models were unsuitable for analysis under conditions that involve high plastic deformation and are not able to predict incremental plasticity. The non-linear kinematic hardening model was adequate for shakedown analysis in all simulated conditions.
