Summary: In order to understand the cyclic loading phenomena, an elastic shakedown, a plastic shakedown or a ratchetting, successive indentations tests were carried out. Two loads were used 62.5 and 187.5 Kgf and the methodology was repeated Brinell hardness tests up to 80 cycles on forged wheel Class C and AISI 1020 steels, for which more cyclic hardening data is available in the literature. Aiming to reproduce the experimental results, the finite element software ABAQUS and the Chaboche nonlinear kinematic hardening rule has been chosen. An analysis of C e γ influences, with an arbitrary area and three backstress, allowed an efficient estimation of the final hardening parameters. The numerical curves were verified aiming to reproduce another successive indentations tests up to 40 cycles. The numerical results, contact area vs. number of cycles, had a relative error less than 15%.
